FOOTBALL AND DRUG ABUSE AWARENESS
"REACHING OUT TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH FOOTBALL- THE TRUTH ABOUT DRUGS"

Sport is a powerful tool for uniting people together, for developing tolerance, respect and inclusion in the society. To build and promote values such as teamwork, fairness, discipline and mutual respect among the youths, thus further promoting the advancement of tolerance (regardless of boundaries, cultures and religious backgrounds), solidarity and social cohesion.
In 2020, football competitions were organized in various locations in Nigeria and abroad, where participants representing the two major religious communities (Christianity and Islam) where represented. Before commencement of the competition, both communities were sensitized on the need to respect religious backgrounds and to refrain from using dangerous/hate speeches, and hinting on freedom of religion. In the course of the competition, there was free flow of communication between the two communities, regardless of religion, they saw themselves as one and were happy.
During the tournament, participants where also sensitized on peacebuilding and on the menace of drug abuse in the society a society. Also, several copies of The Truth About Drugs manuals were distributed to more than 200 participants (including spectators), especially as drug abuse is one of the greatest menaces in the community today and has led to destruction of lives of most youths.
